7 Protective Items To Use With Your Chainsaw

!: 7 Protective Items To Use With Your Chainsaw

Many people wrongly feel that protective equipment is just something that novices use. The more experienced users of chainsaws do not need them. This is totally false. Even professional loggers use protective equipment, and do so because of one reason only. It safeguards them from injuries.

Of course this does not mean that you go swathed from head to toe whenever you want to use your chainsaw, but rudimentary precautions are essential.

Safety hat - This is so that you don't get a knock on your own head. There can be a number of reasons why you may be in danger of falling objects, and if you are to concentrate solely on your cutting, you need to be sure that your head is safe. A hard hat will ensure this.

Gloves - They are not only for style. Your hands are the part of your body that is nearest to the chainsaw which means that they are the most in danger of getting injured by splinters. Even though most manufacturers say that the they have designed their chainsaws to minimize this from happening, there is no way that they can prevent it entirely. Having gloves will ensure that your hands are protected.

Plus your gloves will help you get a good grip on your chainsaw. When you are using it for some time, your palms will sweat, with the risk of you not being able to hold on to the saw properly. The gloves will negate any problems that arise out of sweaty palms.

Protective eyewear - This is most important because your eyes are the single most precious organ in the body, and a stray splinter can injure your eye to such an extent that it can cause permanent damage. Simple, all enveloping goggles are available that will do a good job of keeping these chips away from your eyes.

Boots - Don't use your chainsaw unless you have good boots that give you a firm footing. Sneakers are good as long as you are running along the ground, but are really not meant to be used when you do this kind of work. You need something that has hard, knobbly soles that will grip the ground properly so that you don't slip and fall while operating the chainsaw.

Earmuffs - Unless you want to get hard of hearing earmuffs are a good idea as it will protect your ears from damage.

Apart from these there are other optional pieces of equipment that you can wear.

Vest - The vest will protect you from flying splinters to the body. While many people may feel that they don't need one, the long and short of it is that it does protect you. Wearing one, especially with full sleeves will ensure that your arms, the portion that is not covered by the gloves too are protected. You could of course also use a leather jacket if you have one lying around.

Chaps - They provide the same thing for your legs. Considering that most of the time you will be bracing the chainsaw against your thigh or hip, your legs are the second most vulnerable to injury after your hands. Although most of us will wear thick jeans, an extra layer of protection in the form of chaps will not hurt anyone.

Be the Quietest on the Block With the PB 460LN Echo Backpack Blower

!: Be the Quietest on the Block With the PB 460LN Echo Backpack Blower

Echo has put a lot of hard work into designing and producing a range of quieter gas blowers. I was impressed with the noise levels made by the 260 series using a 25.4 cc engine. However, I am amazed that they have managed to do it again with this much more powerful version of their backpack blowers. Indeed the PB 460 Echo backpack blower only produces 65db of noise using a 44 cc engine and for this reason it has got to be the quietest on the block. This is exactly the same level as the less powerful 260 model. The PB 460 uses special noise attenuation technology to reduce the noise down to this remarkable level. Even at full throttle it still makes only the same level of sound. It makes this model very suitable for neighborhoods where keeping the noise down is very important. Even so, you should still check your local regulations to make sure that this machine conforms to the law.

As for performance: the 44 cc two stroke engine produces an air speed of 175 miles per hour. This is comparable to the STIHL 420 machine which produces roughly the same air peed but with a much more hefty 56.5 cc engine. Air speed is important if you want to be able to move heavier pieces of debris or break up matted sticky, damp leaves and piles of damp grass cuttings. The amount of air moved is 380 Cubic Feet per Minute. This is measured at the end of the tube. This amount of air is less than the STIHL 380 model which comes in at 465 CFM. However, the engine in the Echo is smaller than the 56.5cc of the STIHL model. One should therefore expect it to be less able to keep the debris moving and a bit harder to deal with further way objects that need clearing up.

As with all Echo products this blower has the easy start pro fire ignition system. There is a cold start position on the choke assembly and a pump primer bulb to get the fuel flowing. It should start within 5 short pulls of the recoil starter handle. The electronic ignition system makes starting this machine very easy. It has a 1.9 Liter transparent fuel tank which has to be filled with a standard Fifty to One 2 stroke mixture of gas and oil. It has a heavy duty automotive style air filter which is easy to replace and prevents dirt and blowing debris from getting into the engine.

In terms of ergonomics this model has a padded backrest and shoulder straps that are easy to adjust. The design of the frame also helps with comfort, because it is actually a light weight roll cage which is made from durable high impact plastic. This also makes servicing the machine simpler as access to the main parts is easy compared to other backpack machines. The overall weight of the tool is 26.4 lbs which means that it could start to feel a little heavy if you use it for long periods of time. There is a hip mounted throttle control for easy and accessible operation.

This is a professional level backpack leaf blower that has a light weight and quiet design. It has a low noise output and produces a high air speed that will easily cope with most leaf and grass clear ups. If you are looking for a blower that is comfortable to use and has the power to do most jobs then you certainly should consider the PB 460.

The Best Backpack Leaf Blowers - Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Next Leaf Blower

!: The Best Backpack Leaf Blowers - Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Next Leaf Blower

When considering the best backpack leaf blowers, there are several different things to keep in mind. These factors will dictate the type of blower you'll need for your leaves. Answer the basic questions below and you will have a great piece of lawn care equipment that will last you years.

First, think about how large of an area you need to service. Are you going to use the blower for leaves at home in a small yard or a bigger lawn area? If the blower is going to be used for commercial work, this is a big deciding factor. This will tell you how big and strong the engine needs to be in the device.

Next, there are 3 types of powering systems. There's the conventional gas-powered system. Another type is electrical power. The last is a cordless battery-powered backpack leaf blower. This decision will help to narrow down your model choices. You will obviously need gasoline for the gas models and will have to choose between a plugin cord model or cordless with the electrical leaf blower option.

Another thing to think about is whether you will require a vacuum or mulching feature. There are now leaf vacuuming and blowing units that can hook up to bags and trash cans to dump your leaves in after being vacuumed up once the leaves are blown into a pile.

Some other random considerations are weight and noise issues. Some products for blowing leaves like other lawn equipment are loud. But, some are quieter than others. Also, if you have a bad back or will be using the blower for long periods of time, the less weight the better. So, keep this in mind as well as you shop for the best backpack leaf blowers in your price range.

Popular brands include Husqvarna, Redmax, Homelite, and Echo backpack leaf blowers. Makita, Stihl, and Troy-bilt make some industry standard powerful blower models as well. Whichever company you go with, make sure that it fits your budget and has all the features you need for use in your yard at home. Doing some serious research ahead of time will go a long way in the end.

Make Money Mowing Lawns This Summer

!: Make Money Mowing Lawns This Summer

If you're out of school for the summer, I have an idea for you. Make Some Money! You probably already have a lot of ideas for how to spend it, and that's great, but I also would encourage you to save and invest a large percentage of what you earn.

If you're of legal age, there are plenty of jobs out there for you. However, I would like to encourage you to try your hand at running your own small business. I know...I know...there are all the big lawn care operations out there to compete with these days, but trust me, there are still plenty of opportunities for an enterprising young person.

Chances are your parents already own most if not all the equipment you need to get started. If they let you borrow their equipment, just be sure to take care of it, and you might even give them a small percentage of your profits to pay for wear and tear on the equipment.

When you can afford to do so, if you have storage room, maybe you could buy your own equipment using some of your profits. I would suggest a dependable walk-behind or push mower, a good string trimmer, and a good blower. Start out small but when you can afford it, get the small curved shaft Echo trimmer and an Echo backpack blower. If you take care of this equipment it will last a very long time and do a great job for you! Be sure you know which pieces of equipment used mixed gas and make sure you get it right every time. If you put straight gas in a 2-cycle trimmer or blower, you will destroy it very quickly!

Your leaf blower can be used to blow leaves off people's lawn in the fall for an extra source of income. You can learn to use your string-trimmer to edge with to save time and money, but I suggest you get someone to teach you how and be sure to get a lot of practice before trying it on a customer's yard. It's not as easy as it looks, and you could make a mess of their lawn.

The first thing you need are clients. I suggest you start out by mowing your own lawn at home. This will give you some of the practice you need to do a good job and be efficient at it. Next, let people in you neighborhood know you are available for mowing and other yard services.

You will have to do a little research to get an idea of what other companies are charging for lawn services. When people hire a teenager to mow their lawn, they are usually looking for a deal. Don't go bottom dollar, but you may have to price your services a little lower than the going rate. That's O.K. because your competition usually has a lot of overhead expenses including employee pay checks. You don't have these expenses and a large portion of your earnings will be profit.

If you work hard, are careful to do a great job, and are friendly with your customers, you will soon get referrals. This is the cheapest and best advertising you can get. If you get ambitious, you can use your computer to make up flyers advertising your services and distribute those flyers in your neighborhood or another neighborhood close by. Be sure to follow the post office rules when it comes to distributing flyers. They cannot touch the mailbox itself, but you are allowed to attach flyers to the post. You can also advertise on Craigslist for free and pick up customers that way. Any way you look at it, if you show up when you are supposed to and do a half way descent job, you should get more business than you can handle. This can be a great way to start making money to pay for that car you plan to buy when you are old enough to drive.

Just today, my oldest son made in just a few short hours of yard work close by, and secured another job for next week. You can do it too. Get out there and make it happen!

Postpartum Depression After Labor and Delivery

!: Postpartum Depression After Labor and Delivery

If you suffer from postpartum depression then you shouldn't feel helpless when it comes time to see your baby or for any hope of getting better. There is always help, and you will be able to get over this tough time in your life. Many women go through this in their life, and they just need to seek the help that they need. You should also realize that you have this before getting help, or it might be tough to get over. This is because you need to know that you need help before you can actually get the help. No one can talk you into doing something that you do not want to do. Usually if you feel the way you do with this type of depression, you know you need help.

Talking to a professional or anyone in this case might help you get over it depending on the severity that it is in. You should want to see your baby when they are born, and bond with them since this is the most crucial moment for bonding. This is something that any mother would want. Sometimes this is too much for some women, and they should know they are not alone in this fight against postpartum depression. There is a lot of help out there. Sometimes seeing the baby helps the woman get over it, and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the woman, and how far she is into it since each woman and pregnancy is different. You should try every possible solution out there to see what works best for you.

If you find that seeing or holding your baby doesn't help then find an alternative way for help. There are social groups out there with other women going through the same problem that you can talk too, and also be able to relate too instead of just talking to a doctor about it. You also might not benefit from any drugs that they might want to give you. It depends on what you are willing to do, and how far you're willing to go for help. They will be able to give you insight on what is best for you, but you have to make the ultimate decision on what you choose to do for your depression.

Your family members and friends might also have been through it, and they can give you ideas on what can help. Depending on your situation there are always outlets to help you feel better. Talk to someone about what you will be able to do, and look on the internet for more information about postpartum depression and the common ways for successful cures that have worked in the past.

Getting To Know Chainsaw Manufacturing's Lesser Lights

!: Getting To Know Chainsaw Manufacturing's Lesser Lights

While Husqvarna and Stihl have long been regarded the giants of the chainsaws world, lesser known brands such as Jonsered, Echo, Poulan and McCullogh have gradually been chipping away at their dominance. Better technology and growth in the semi professional use of chainsaws have seen more market opportunities open up for the lesser lights.

This report will offer a brief insight into the world of the smaller chainsaws manufacturer and hopefully offer you, the user, more choice before you decide to buy.

Jonsered

Jonsered is part of the Electrolux group of companies. It is no minnow. It first emerged as a possible player in the chainsaw industry in 1954 when it produced a prototype for what we know today as a one operator saw. It was a revolutionary move over 50 years ago and not many people realise chainsaws were machine monsters back then and had to be operated by at least two people.

Now servicing both the professional and non professional, Jonsered is always on the cutting edge of technology. For example, their turbo chainsaw range have provided users with an easier to start machine and enhanced safety features. They have been around a long time, in fact since the 1880's as a power tool processor and during the last half century, have been silently "snapping at the heels" of the major players in the chainsaw industry.

Echo

As with most Japanese produced products, Echo chainsaws have all the trademark dependability and performance reliability we've come to expect. Echo is the largest chainsaw manufacturer in Japan and has made massive inroads on the world wide stage during the past three decades.

It was once stated Echo produces just about the most appreciated chainsaw on the market. Why? Because their no fuss approach has seen it's machines do what they were designed to do... cut. Their best known feature is their enormous power to size ratio. An excellent example of this is the marvellous CS - 440. Woodcutters have described it as dynamite in a small package...an apt description.

Poulan

Another under the Electrolux group, the Poulan name is synonomous with power tools. Once independently owned and set up by one of the chainsaw industy's pioneers, Claude Poulan, the brand name has come a long way during the past 60 years. It has an interesting history, in fact, it's known Claude Poulan came up with the idea of a smaller power-driven chainsaw after watching prisoners fumble around with the massive machines of the early years during service in World War 2. In fact, his idea to replace the pry-pole operator virtually caused a revolution in the forestry industry.

Poulan often shares its technologies with Husqvarna as part of the Electrolux banner and have developed a very loyal band of supporters. New improvements which have included the SuperClean system have earnt Poulan a strong reputation for producing durable chainsaws.

McCullough And Homelite

Mccullough and Homelite are always highly spoken of in the chainsaw industry. McCullough has been providing woodcutters with excellent chainsaw products for more than 60 years. They specialise in both the gas and electric machines as well as lightweight and heavy duty chainsaws.

Homelite has been around since 1921. It has built a reputation for being innovative and has a long list of achievements in close to 90 years, to back up their claims. In fact, it was "dabbling" in electric chainsaws as far back as the mid 1940's. Homelite has been a major player in producing environmentally safe machine technology.

While Husqvarna and Stihl will be hard to "knock off their perch" as the frontrunners in chainsaw manufacturers, the above mentioned brands are just some which provide consumers with buying options.

Using Leaf Blower Ratings to Choose a Backpack Leaf Blower

!: Using Leaf Blower Ratings to Choose a Backpack Leaf Blower

Leaf blower ratings can help you choose a backpack leaf blower that will suit your needs. There are technical ratings concerning the physics of how these tools work and there are others that are more the view points of people who have already bought the particular leaf bower that you are looking at. Both types are important but understanding what each means and how they can apply to your choice is just as important. This article assumes that you have already decided on a backpack version rather then a hand held or walk behind type.

Backpack blowers are available in two types. There are ones that just blow and others that can blow and vacuum as well. You firstly have to decide which type will meet your needs. In terms of the work to be done there are advantages associated with each type. The blower only type is simpler in design with fewer attachments to worry about. They will push the leaves and debris about and you can either blow them to the boundaries of your land where they are out of the way or direct them into piles which can then be collected and disposed of later. The ones with a vacuum feature have to have a bag attachment which is used to collect the leaves as they are sucked up. This bag has to be emptied when full and also restricts your movements compared to a simpler blower. You have to decide whether it is less trouble to move the leaves once they are in piles or to keep on emptying a bag.

There are 2 main measurements used to describe the ability of a blower to do its job. The first is the air speed generated in miles per hour and the second is the volume of air moved, measured in cubic feet per minute or CFM. The higher the air speed the larger and stickier the items that can be moved by blowing. A machine with a high air speed is more likely to move large wet leaves and this might be an advantage depending on the type of work you need to do. High air speed also means that debris further away is likely to be moved as well. The CFM measure is useful for determining the vacuuming ability. The higher the CFM of the machine the better that it is likely to be at sucking up larger objects, rather than leaving them lying on the ground.

Ergonomics describes how much thought has gone into making the machine easy on your body when you use it. The fact that this is a backpack design already means that thought has gone into this. It is used to make the machine easier to carry. They are heavier than the hand held ones so this feature is essential. The ergonomic design will determine whether it is comfortable to wear and easy to put on and take off. It will also relate to how easy it is to operate. Strap design and frame design are both important in producing a user friendly tool. Using a blower involves many repeat movements which can damage joints in the body. It is therefore essential that it is well balanced and that the controls are easy to get at and use.

Manufacturers will always say that their machines are well designed, so for information on this you need to consult reviews on the internet written by people who have already bought and used the equipment. With reviews you need to keep in mind that people generally write these if they are very satisfied or very dissatisfied. The vast majority of people who use the tool without problems wouldn't bother to put pen to paper. This means that if you see no reviews it doesn't say that the equipment is bad. You should mainly look to see if there are a lot of complaints about a specific issue and then decide if the information is important in your choice.

The choice of a backpack leaf blower therefore mainly involves looking at the air speed for blowing, the volume of air moved for vacuuming and the ergonomic characteristics to match the human body so that it can be operated in comfort without harming the body. There are many other issues that should be considered but there isn't room to discuss them all here.
